Those Who Sought to End Our Democracy Failed

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK, JANUARY 6, 2022 – The brazen attack on our democracy that fanned the flames of an insurrection a year ago today will not be forgotten because, sadly, many of the players remain actively involved in dissolving our democracy.

“The path to unity is through accountability. It is incumbent upon our elected officials, to tell the truth. What happened a year ago was an attempt to subvert our democracy, and those who perpetrated it should be held accountable at all levels,” stated Alicia Andrews, Oklahoma Democratic Party Chair.

“Republicans’ far-right extremism has grown far beyond divisive to downright dangerous this past year. Those feeding the election fraud misinformation stream are almost as culpable as those who stormed the Capitol. The 2020 elections were the most secure that our nation has ever seen, and a lack of accountability for the January 6 attack is setting our nation up for a repeat performance. It’s critical to call out Republicans on their harmful lies so that nothing like the 2021 Capitol insurrection can ever happen again,” she continued.

“My resolve is strengthened to protect our democracy to ensure that as many people as possible can participate in the democratic process by exercising their right to vote in a safe and secure environment. This is what Oklahomans and all Americans deserve, concluded Andrews.
