The Oklahoma Democratic Party Pleased with Interim Study Request

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK, JUNE 22, 2023 – The Oklahoma Democratic Party is pleased to learn of Representative Mickey Dollens’ (D-OKC) request for an interim study on “preserving and defending the citizen-led ballot initiative process in Oklahoma.”

“The statewide and national attempts by the GOP to silence voters by making ballot initiatives more difficult is pure voter suppression. I am grateful that Representative Dollens is committed to protecting Democracy and voters’ rights,” stated Alicia Andrews, Chair of the Oklahoma Democratic Party.

“Since the passing of ballot initiatives SQ780 and SQ781 for criminal justice reform and SQ820’s medical marijuana, Republicans in the Oklahoma legislature have been upset about citizen-led initiatives claiming that the people haven’t the right to make laws. These attempts at voter suppression undermine the direct democracy process Oklahomans deserve to have preserved. Thank you to our House Democrats for all their hard work for Oklahoma voters and to Representative Dollens for initiating this interim study request,” Andrews concluded.
