MITT ROMNEY CALLS E-VERIFY STANDARD FOR NATION

While Mullin Runs for the Border

Oklahoma City, OK—In the second of three Presidential debates, Republican nominee Mitt Romney said, “the e-verify portion of the Arizona law…that was a model for the nation.” [New York Times, 10/16/2012]

“Left or right, Oklahomans care about the safety and security of our country and our state,” said Oklahoma Democratic Party Vice Chair Dana Orwig. “E-verify is a free tool that represents the Republican Party’s standard for the nation, in terms of background checks.”

Republican Congressional candidate Markwayne Mullin (OK-2) refuses to use e-verify, which is provided for free by the Department of Homeland Security. It enables employers to do background checks on criminal activity, and confirm the citizenship status of prospective employees.

“Why does Mullin continue to lie to the people of the 2nd District? Is it because he hired at least three convicted felons, who could have been working in your home?” asked Oklahoma Democratic Party Chairman Wallace Collins.
