Healthcare – a Right, not a Privilege

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK, — OCTOBER 25, 2023 – Open enrollment into the ACA Marketplace doesn’t open until next week, but everyone must know their options ahead of time and take the time to look over available coverage because everyone deserves the right to affordable quality healthcare. Open enrollment for January 2024 begins November 1 and continues through December 15. Plans and sign-up are at healthcare.gov.

“Since its establishment, the ACA Marketplace has helped millions of Americans obtain high-quality healthcare at an affordable price,” stated Alicia Andrews, Chair of the Oklahoma Democratic Party. “Healthcare is a fundamental human right so that citizens can maintain or improve their health through prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and management of illness, injuries, and other health conditions. Oklahomans agree with this sentiment, evidenced by the passing of State Question 802, which expanded Medicaid access in the state of Oklahoma in 2021.

“Thanks to the Biden-Harris administration, and the majority of voting Oklahomans, more people who weren’t eligible in the past now have access to coverage with lower premiums. Better access provides preventive care, care from specialists, and an increased range of hospital and medical services.

“Quality healthcare that is also affordable is critical to the well-being and dignity of individuals. Illness and injury can affect anyone, and quality healthcare ensures that individuals receive the care they need to preserve their health and quality of life. Affordable healthcare services and treatments must be accessible to individuals without causing financial hardship. Thanks to Obama and Biden, the ACA Marketplace offers a balance of quality healthcare services with the ability of individuals and families to access and afford them without undue financial strain. Once again, Democrats deliver.” Andrews concluded.
