Cole Plays Partisan Politics and Shirks Responsibility

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK, FEBRUARY 4, 2021 – Oklahoma is facing another disappointing GOP response to Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s dangerous, violent, and sick behaviors as Congress decides whether to strip Green’s committee assignments.

Although Oklahoma Representative Tom Cole says he is “offended” by Green’s remarks, he clearly is not offended enough to recognize the dangerous precedent being set if Greene is not held accountable for her violent comments directed towards House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Greene’s threats and the safety of Congressional members should be addressed quickly and not swept under the rug for “partisan protection.” Ignoring her behavior only emboldens Greene and others to continue the same type of rhetoric that led to the Capitol insurrection.

“After the Capitol riot, haven’t we as a nation learned that inciting an insurrection and making threats against members of Congress is completely unacceptable?” asked Oklahoma Democratic Party Chairwoman, Alicia Andrews.

“Cole shouldn’t give Greene a pass trying to push responsibility only onto the Ethics Committee. He is elected to represent the people of Oklahoma and, therefore, the Oklahoma Democratic Party holds that Cole and other Republicans need to take the high road, stand up for Democracy, and denounce Greene’s behavior. She must be held to account and Cole’s refusal to make her do so says as much about him as it does about Greene.” concluded Andrews.
