The Oklahoma Democratic Party Honors Hispanic Heritage Month

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK, — September 15, 2023 – As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, the Oklahoma Democratic Party joins Oklahomans across our state in honoring the many contributions and achievements of Hispanic Americans in our state and country.

“As Democrats, we understand that our strength is in our diversity,” stated Alicia Andrews, Chair of the Oklahoma Democratic Party. “Oklahoma is home to nearly 470,000 Hispanic Americans, 11.7% of the state’s total population. We reaffirm our commitment to advocating for the interests and causes of our Latino communities, comprehensive immigration reform, and reflecting on how Hispanic Americans represent America today.

“Hispanics are vital members of Oklahoma’s labor force and economy, with over 10,000 Hispanic-owned businesses across our state. Hispanic Americans enrich our state’s culture with beauty in the arts. We can credit Hispanic contributions to our state in the agricultural industry, historical railroad maintenance when Oklahoma expanded the railroad system, and serving honorably in the military.

“The Oklahoma Democratic Party is delighted to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month and proud to work with activists fighting for human rights, civil rights, and immigrants’ rights as we build our communities,” concluded Andrews.
