Stitt Costs Oklahoma Economy $3 Million

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK, JULY 7, 2021 – While Democrats are focused on helping Oklahomans during the unprecedented pandemic, Stitt and his Republican cohorts have cost our State’s economy nearly $3 million by ending the extended pandemic unemployment benefits early.

“GOP leadership continues to play with Oklahomans’ lives,” declared Alicia Andrews, Chair of the Oklahoma Democratic Party. “It’s a disgrace that Stitt ended the unemployment benefits early based on the false premise that people didn’t want to return to work because they made more on unemployment. This is just another BIG lie to hide behind.

“Stitt is completely out of touch with the realities every day Oklahomans are facing. This is politics-over-people at its worst,” continued Andrews. “Unemployment Insurance helps stabilize an economy. By ending the extended unemployment benefits early, Stitt cost our State $3 million and put families in harm’s way limiting the economic recovery efforts.

“Oklahomans deserve better than a governor who puts support for a one-term president’s Big Lie over the welfare of the citizens he swore an oath to protect. It’s shameful, and Democrats will not forget Stitt’s failed leadership and where he placed his priorities during a global crisis,” concluded Andrews.
