It’s Time to Confirm the Stalled Military Promotions

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK, — September 21, 2023 – Republican Sen. Tommy Tuberville’s political tantrum, holding numerous military promotions in limbo, putting our national security in danger as well as the lives of our honored service members and their families, has been a ridiculous clown show. Still, we must ask, where have our Oklahoma Senators Mullin and Lankford been? Why have they been so quiet, failing to push for the protection of our country as they claim is needed but quick to hightail it down to the border for photo ops?

“Oh, the hypocrisy over personal and political agendas! I am pleased that Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer pushed through so that a vote could be made to confirm the nominations of three of the over 300 outstanding military promotions frozen due to Tuberville’s childish behavior,” stated Alicia Andrews, Chair of the Oklahoma Democratic Party.

“But our own Oklahoma U.S. Senators should be ashamed for claiming to want to protect our country but not publicly condemning his actions. In their eyes, it’s okay to waste time and money at the border. We aren’t supporting our top military officers even now, when our country is supporting a war in Ukraine against Russia. Where are the photo ops of them standing with our military and against Tubberville and his antics?

“The Oklahoma Democratic Party congratulates Gen. C.Q. Brown, Gen. Randy George, and Gen. Eric Smith on their nomination confirmations. We only hope common sense prevails and the Senate can finally confirm the remaining nominations. In the meantime, maybe Mullin and Lankford will find the backbone to voice their dismay and disapproval of this despicable performance from one of their own. I’m not holding my breath,” Andrews concluded.
