Democrats Call on Oklahoma Republicans to Protect the Vote

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma Democratic Party released the following statement addressing Trump’s efforts of voter suppression:

“It is sad, though not surprising, to watch the President of the United States engage in a petulant, childish temper tantrum over the most fundamental act of democracy, counting the votes,” stated Oklahoma Democratic Party Chairwoman Alicia Andrews.

“The President’s pathetic, disjointed attempts to force election officials to stop counting in some states while demanding they continue in others isn’t just sad. It is actively destructive to the legitimacy of our democracy. Trust in the electoral process is the bedrock of our democracy, and President Trump, Rudy Guliani, and their ilk are doing all they can to erode that trust.

“In any other time, with any other president, it would go without saying that such conduct is unacceptable. The condemnation from both parties would be swift and sure. But since we are in such a chaotic time with this president, I must call upon prominent Oklahoma Republicans, including Governor Stitt, Senators Lankford and Inhofe, Representatives Hern, Mullin, Cole, and Lucas, and Representative-elect Bice to publicly denounce these shameful, undemocratic tantrums and affirm that all votes count and all votes must be counted. To do any less would reveal their true commitment is to naked partisan power and not to the voters of Oklahoma and the United States of America,” concluded Andrews.
