Virgin Responds to Governor’s Medicaid Expansion Announcement

OKLAHOMA CITY — House Minority Leader Emily Virgin (D-Norman) released the following statement in response to Governor Stitt’s attempt to deny Oklahomans a say in their healthcare.

“People are tired of waiting,” Virgin said. “The governor wants to do everything he can to keep Medicaid expansion out of the state constitution because he knows he can’t touch it once it’s constitutional law, which means he can’t take away health coverage from hundreds of thousands of Oklahomans who need it. Full Medicaid Expansion through the state constitution is the cleanest, most transparent way to expand health care coverage in Oklahoma. It’s time for the Governor to do his job by announcing an election date so Oklahomans can decide best how to proceed.

“On the plus side, we are glad that Governor Stitt and legislative Republicans are finally seeing the need to expand the Affordable Care Act.”
