The Oklahoma Democratic Party Supports Rep. Nichols’ Call for Lankford to Resign from Commission

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK, January 13, 2021 – The Oklahoma Democratic Party stands behind Representative Monroe Nichols, a member of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre Centennial Commission, who has called on Sen. James Lankford to step down from the Commission. The Party agrees that Lankford’s initial seditious actions to challenge the January 6th Electoral Vote, which disenfranchises the votes in communities of color, must disqualify him for serving on the Commission.

Alicia Andrews, the Oklahoma Democratic Party Chair, stated, “For the good of Oklahoma, do the right thing and step down from the Commission. There is no place for anyone on this commission who believes that the ballots from black and brown voters should be thrown out because you want to protect your seat in 2022 and support a childish, inconsequential President.

“The heinous lies spread about widespread voter fraud in predominately black areas and the unconstitutional act of violating their sworn oath is disgusting, un-American, and a threat to our Democracy. Lankford has no place on this commission,” concluded Andrews.
