Stitt Can’t Get His Way, So He Threatens

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK, — MAY 1, 2023 – Oklahoma’s governor behaves like a two-year-old throwing a tantrum when he doesn’t get what he wants. He is not only holding the Legislature hostage over education tax cuts but is now threatening to close down Oklahoma’s Public Broadcasting Network over false claims of “indoctrination.”

“Stitt originally claimed that Oklahoma Educational Television Authority, OETA was having financial difficulties and, therefore, the state shouldn’t help fund them. Since then, he has been claiming issues with Clifford the Big Red Dog and Kangaroos, crying that OETA is ‘sexualizing children,” stated Alicia Andrews, Chair of the Oklahoma Democratic Party. “When Stitt doesn’t get his way, he resorts to childish threats and no substance to back up his claims.

“OETA has provided children programming and small market interests for decades, which is a blow to its service if funding is removed. The governor wants an uneducated public school system and now wants an uneducated public.

“Oklahoma would be the first state not to fund public broadcasting, another embarrassment for our state. Stitt is about to further hurt Oklahomans over his political rhetoric and lies. When a failed leader cannot lead, they posture and threaten instead. Oklahoma deserves much better than the authoritarian actions taking over our state,” Andrews concluded.
