DNC Statement on Women’s History Month
As we begin Women’s History Month, DNC Chair Jaime Harrison and DNC Women’s Caucus Chair Lottie Shackelford released the following statement:
“Women’s History Month represents a time for Americans to honor the progress made possible by the sacrifice, determination, and contributions of women that have made our country stronger. From pushing the frontier of scientific knowledge to expanding the right to vote, women have been at the center of countless fights to advance our nation towards justice, liberty, and equality for all.
“President Biden, Vice President Harris, and Democrats are committed to defending, protecting, and expanding women’s rights. The Biden-Harris administration has appointed a historic Cabinet with a record number of women which includes Janet Yellen, the first woman Treasury Secretary, Deb Haaland, the first Indigenous woman to serve in the Cabinet, Katherine Tai, the first woman of color to serve as U.S. Trade Representative, and Avril Haines, the first woman Director of National Intelligence. Since taking office, the administration also established the White House Gender Policy Council, which developed the first-ever National Strategy on Gender Equity and Equality. Working with Congress, President Biden has developed new programs to combat domestic violence and sexual assault. President Biden and Democrats believe in an America that empowers and protects all women, and this Women’s History Month we recommit ourselves to the important work before us to make that vision real.”
