Sexual Harassment No Place in Politics and Society

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma Democratic Party has released the following statement regarding the continuous and troubling conduct of Republican Legislators:

An independent counsel, Oklahoma City labor attorney Courtney Warmington, has been assigned by the Oklahoma House of Representatives to investigate sexual harassment charges of improperly touching two women, one a former member of the House, by two Republican Legislators, Rep. Chris Kannady, and Rep. Kevin McDugle. Warmington was also part of another sexual harassment investigation against former Representative Dan Kirby (R-Checotah) in 2017.

Protecting women and individual’s safety is a core part of our Democratic values. We do not condone acts of sexual harassment towards any human being. Oklahomans also deserve to know how the House is conducting the investigation. The Oklahoma Democratic Party calls on the Republican-Majority run House and the independent counsel to ensure an open and transparent investigative process. We cannot continue to tolerate nor turn a blind eye to all forms of harassment, particularly by intimidating “good ole boys” cliques and those hiding behind their prominent seats and positions.
