ODP Chair Statement on Democratic Senate District 45 Candidate’s Field

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma Democratic Party Chair Anna Langthorn’s statement on the Democratic Senate District 45 candidate’s field:

“One of the great things about American representative democracy is that almost anyone can sign up to run for public office–sometimes, this even applies to people with a history of abusive behavior toward women. As we learned the hard way this last election, sometimes they can even win. This should serve as a reminder to all of us how much our elections matter because decisions are made by the people who show up.

“The Oklahoma Democratic Party has a longstanding principle against taking sides in contested primaries. At the same time, our party stands for the values of the women’s movement, expressed in laws like the Violence Against Women Act. Therefore, we encourage both Democrats and Independents (who have the right to vote in our party primaries–something the other side can’t say) to research Senate District 45 candidates fully, evaluate their strengths and weaknesses, and make an informed decision on August 8.”
