Oklahoma Democratic Party Calls on Stitt to Declare Emergency for Schools to Protect

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK, August 3, 2021 – Governor Stitt continues to fail our most vulnerable as our state faces rising positive cases of the COVID – Delta variant. Students, teachers, and staff are weeks away from returning to the classroom without the ability to protect. Pediatric ICU beds are filling up at a pace where we are sending children out of state for emergency care. What does it take for this governor to put public health first before politics?

“This is incomprehensible of any leader. The new Delta variant surge in our state should be an eye-opener and requires immediate action. Yet, Stitt stands by idly refusing to issue an emergency for schools to protect,” stated Alicia Andrews, Chairwoman of the Oklahoma Democratic Party.

“This is a crisis unfolding and Stitt is nowhere to be found addressing this emergency. This governor is failing to keep our children safe and is instead out campaigning for re-election — his priorities are a disgrace.

“Oklahoma could be a beacon of hope during a time of crisis. If only our Governor cared more about our citizens than pandering to alt-conservatives dishing out misinformation and politicizing health and safety. The Oklahoma Democratic Party calls on Stitt to reverse course and issue an emergency so schools can protect students, teachers, and staff,” concluded Andrews.
