Oklahoma Dem Leader at White House for Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson Celebration

OKLAHOMA CITY—APRIL 8, 2022 – Alicia Andrews, Chair of the Oklahoma Democratic Party, is representing Oklahoma at the White House today for a Presidential celebration of the confirmation of Ketanji Brown Jackson to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Boarding a flight from Tulsa just before 5:00 this morning, Andrews said she was both excited and humbled to receive the invitation from the White House. “It’s a bit surreal to think that a little Black girl from Oklahoma could grow up and go to Washington for a celebration of history being made. It is, of course, a tremendous honor for me to go. Equally important is the powerful message this sends to young people in Oklahoma, and it reinforces the notion that a child can grow up to be just about anything they want to be,” said Andrews.

Scott J. Hamilton, Executive Director of the Party, noted the stark contrast between Republicans and Democrats. “Both Oklahoma Senators voted against confirming Judge Brown Jackson. They had a chance to be on the right side of history, and both chose to stand in the way of progress for the American people. I am so proud of Alicia and all of her work to get Oklahoma recognized in our nation’s capital,” he said.

In addition to her duties as Chair of the ODP, Andrews also serves as the Vice-Chair of the Midwest Region of the Association of State Democratic Parties and is co-chair of the education committee of that organization.

Andrews returns to Oklahoma on Saturday when she is slated to address the Federation of Oklahoma Democratic Women.
