Oklahoma Congress Members Must Explain Why They Do Not Care About Oklahomans
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK, MARCH 11, 2021 – While Republicans on the hill continued their partisan schemes, Democrats came together to pass the American Relief Plan with 61% bipartisan support of the people. It is now on its way to President Biden’s desk for signing.
“Oklahoma’s U.S. Senators and Representatives continue to play with Oklahomans’ lives,” declared Alicia Andrews, Chair of the Oklahoma Democratic Party. “It’s disgraceful that not one single Republican voted in support of a relief plan to help keep small businesses afloat, get more shots into the arms of Americans, extend unemployment insurance, and putting $1,400 in the pockets of hurting families.
“The American Relief Plan helps protect people, jobs, and boosts our economy during a global crisis. It’s an enormous hand-up and for those most hurting,” continued Andrews.
“Republicans are completely out of touch with the realities people are facing and the sacrifices they have made this past year. They have disgustingly ‘united’ to stand against relief that is a matter of life and death for many struggling Oklahomans, just for the sake of their political careers. This is politics-over-people at its worst.
“Oklahoma’s U.S. Congress members must explain why they voted against helping Oklahomans in a childish scheme to vote against direct relief in an effort to protect themselves and not their constituents. An overwhelming majority of Americans support the relief plan, yet the Republicans failed to support those they swore to protect. It’s shameful, and Democrats will not forget where these so-called representatives placed their priorities,” concluded Andrews.
