State Party Calls for Attorney General to Investigate Corruption

Oklahoma City– Janet Barresi, Oklahoma’s Republican Superintendent of Public Instruction, has been accused of using “slush funds” or private bank accounts by State Auditor Gary Jones. Her actions continue a pattern of bad behavior and hypocrisy from elected officials and candidates from the Oklahoma Republican Party.

The Oklahoma Democratic Party is calling on Attorney General Scott Pruitt to begin an investigation of these activities and for the release of records from the Oklahoma Foundation for Innovation. The Foundation for Innovation was “purportedly” the owner of these unofficial accounts.

“Her actions add her to a growing list of Republicans that have a history of bad behavior,” said Oklahoma Democratic Party Vice-Chair, Dana Orwig.

Allegedly, the funds for these accounts were raised by intimidating vendors that worked with the State of Oklahoma and who had business contracts worth millions of dollars that could have been taken away.

“Where is the OK GOP Chairman Matt Pinnell?” asked Chairman Wallace Collins. “He continues to remain silent about the growing number of Republican candidates and officials that are tied to questionable activities. Does his Republican Party support this pattern of bad behavior?”

Incumbent Raises National Debt by $2.4 trillion in just two years!

Read the recent AP article in the San Francisco Chronicle:

Edmond, Oklahoma– Tom Guild, Democratic Nominee for Congress in the Fifth Congressional District of Oklahoma, speaks to the fact that his opponent, James Lankford, has raised the national debt by $2.4 trillion in his two years in congress.

“The Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776.  In the 236 year period between 1776 and today, the United States has run up a debt of $16 trillion.  During Rep. James Lankford’s two years in the U.S. House, approximately $2.4 trillion has been added to the national debt!  $2.4 trillion is more than 1/8 of the entire national debt in the 236 year history of our great country!  Mr. Lankford promised voters that he is a deficit hawk and he would get federal budget deficits and the national debt under control.  As a member of the House Budget Committee, and as a member of the dominant ideological faction in the majority party in the house, he has utterly failed to keep this campaign promise.  He has made things worse!  The U.S. Constitution requires that all spending bills must originate in the house.  Without Mr. Lankford’s votes, and the votes of his colleagues who form the dominant faction in his majority party in the U.S. House, not one dime can be constitutionally spent,” said Guild.

Guild concluded, “There are good reasons that Mr. Lankford and his congressional colleagues have received the three lowest approval ratings in the history of the country!”

House Studies Summer Food Service Program

OKLAHOMA CITY – School districts have three options through the United States Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service to feed students during the summer, state school officials told members of the House Human Services Committee today in a legislative study.

Joanie Hildenbrand, executive director of the Oklahoma State Department of Education Child Nutrition Programs, said schools can use the National School Lunch Program during the summer if they have summer school. They can also apply to use the Summer Food Service Program or the Seamless Summer Option.

Summer Food Service Program sites, which include schools, private non-profits and other organizations may provide children ages 1-18 food during the summer. The reimbursement rate for the program is higher than that of the Seamless Summer Option.

Barriers to the program include transportation in rural districts and difficulties schools have in providing for the administrative cost and employees during the summer.

Cari Ogden, vice president of community initiatives for the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, told the committee that, as a sponsor, the organization was able to provide more than 130,000 meals to children in the Oklahoma City metropolitan area in the form of sack lunches during the 2012 summer.

Democratic Leader Scott Inman (D-Oklahoma City), who requested the study, said he will support efforts to expand the use of summer food programs.

“Many school districts currently have the option, but not all take advantage of the opportunity. Since federal funding for summer food programs is available, I think we have a responsibility as a community to ensure schools use that funding to provide for the nutritional needs of children who are currently going to bed hungry,” said Inman. “We don’t want children to fall through the cracks.”

Mullin Admits to Breaking State and Federal Law

For Immediate Release

Candidate Violates Oklahoma Citizen’s and Taxpayer Protection Act

Oklahoma City– The Republican candidate for Oklahoma’s 2nd Congressional District, Markwayne Mullin, broke state and federal law.

In 2007, the Oklahoma Citizen’s and Taxpayer Protection Bill (HB 1804) was enacted to require all companies that take money from the state to participate in “the Status Verification System”. This Act forces government contractors to run background checks on employees using a federal database.

Markwayne Mullin failed to do this by his own admission when he was quoted in May of 2012 as stating, “For whatever reason Tim was never background checked, there was no cause or reason to.” Mullin was referring to his employee, Tim Saylor, who was arrested on Mullin Plumbing property.

As previously reported by the Tulsa World, upon review by the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, “The part of the law upheld by the Appeals Court requires businesses that contract with government agencies to verify the immigration status of job seekers by using a federal database known as E-verify.”

E-verify gives employers information such as criminal history and yet Mullin refuses to use the service.

In September 2009 the Department of Homeland Security began requiring the same for companies who receive federal money.

·     Mullin Plumbing received $335,726 in federal stimulus funds. (2011 & 2012,

·     Mullin Plumbing received $31,085 in federal government contracts.(2012, Federal Procurement Data System)

·     Mullin Plumbing received $36,558.32 in state contracts. (2012, Oklahoma Office of State Finance)

·     Mullin Plumbing received $2,184.46 from Wagoner County. (Wagoner County Clerk’s Office)

“The law is very clear–you don’t get the choice of doing a background check whenever you feel like it. When you receive money from the government, you have to verify all of your employees. We know of at least one violation by Mullin’s own admission, how many more are there?” asked Chairman Wallace Collins.
