Governor Stitt Must Demand Communications Director’s Resignation Following Call for Violence

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK, January 12, 2021 — Today, the Oklahoma Democratic Party is calling on Governor Stitt to demand the resignation of his new top communications aide over a recent tweet using violent and threatening rhetoric against elected representatives in the US House. On Tuesday, former National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) staffer and current Spokesperson for Governor Stitt Carly Atchison tweeted that “the NRCC has already put House Democrats in body bags.”

Following Atchison’s disgusting call for violence, a mob egged on by President Trump attacked the United States Capitol. The attack left five people dead, including a police officer.

“Last week’s attack on the U.S. Capitol made it clearer than ever that words matter,” said Oklahoma Democratic Party Chair Alicia Andrews. “The violent rhetoric used by Governor Stitt’s top communications aide just a day before the attack – which left at least five people including a police officer dead – is unacceptable, and she must be held accountable. Governor Stitt should demand her resignation immediately.”
