Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Dylan Billings will be hosting a town hall meeting in Miami next Monday, September 23 at 7 p.m. at the Ottawa County Annex. The event is being co-hosted by the Ottawa County Democratic Party. Billings announced his run for Senate in early August. The office is currently held by long term incumbent Jim Inhofe.
“Having my first town hall meeting be in Miami was incredibly important to me, because there are very few other communities that have suffered as much under Senator Inhofe’s lack of leadership,” Billings said, referring to a recent New York Times article that found that Sen. Inhofe appeared to be preventing flood prevention in Miami because doing so would reduce water levels on Grand Lake, where he happens to own a vacation home.
Billings currently resides in Edmond with his wife, Mary, and their two young boys. He is a University professor and received his Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Oklahoma earlier this year. He says his campaign is going to focus on the issues that actually matter to Oklahomans, like wages and healthcare, issues he says he understands both personally from life experience, as well as technically through his education and profession.
“We have to let the people of Oklahoma know that they have a choice. They have a say in who leads our state and our nation. But unless every Oklahoman actually exercises their right to vote none of the problems that we are concerned about will ever be addressed. Our leaders won’t fight for us because they don’t think they have to.”
