Dr. John Cox Announces Candidacy for State Superintendent of Public Instruction

Dr. John Cox, D-Peggs, a lifelong educator, is officially declaring his candidacy for State Superintendent of Public Instruction.  Dr. Cox is beginning his twentieth year as superintendent at Peggs Public School and 28th year as an educator.  He is also an adjunct professor of education at Northeastern State University, teaching Master’s level courses to aspiring superintendents and principals.

Dr. Cox has his doctorate degree (Ed.D) in educational administration and educational specialist degree (Ed.S.) from Oklahoma State University and his Masters Degree (M.S.) in Counseling and Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) in Mathematics from Northeastern State University.

“I am humbled and proud of the support that is pouring in from around the state” said Cox. “This campaign is all about putting children first, ensuring educators are valued and standing up for the concerns of parents.”

Dr. Cox brings a wealth of experience to the campaign.  He serves as President of the Organization of Rural Elementary Schools, is vice-chair of the Oklahoma Schools Assurance Group and is co-chair of the Vision Committee sponsored by the Oklahoma State School Boards Association and the Cooperative Council of School Administrators. He also served as the state superintendent’s appointee on the ACE Steering Committee and has served on both state superintendents’ advisory groups.

“Serving as a school superintendent and participating on the various boards and educational groups has allowed me to gain insight into educational issues that concern public schools” said Cox.  “Focusing on local control will return accountability to the school district where the best decisions can be made for the children.”
