Emily Gamel is the Secretary of Oklahoma Congressional District One. Before that, she was Secretary of the Tulsa County Democratic Party for two terms while working full-time as a Data Integrity Coordinator for Airgas, an Air Liquide company. In addition to being Tulsa County Secretary, Emily has been a Precinct Inspector in Tulsa County Elections since 2016.

Originally from Southwest Iowa, Emily has chosen Tulsa as her home for the last ten years. Previously to Airgas, she served as Interim General Manager or Sales Manager at multiple hotel and event venues in Tulsa, Kansas City, and Nebraska City, in which she planned and coordinated events for corporate and nuptial clients, hired staff, and managed both permanent and temporary staff.

Emily’s passions include voter education, event planning, volunteer recruitment, and legislative outreach. As an impassioned voter registration advocate, she serves on the Voter Services & Communication Communications Committee of the League of Women Voters Metro Tulsa. She has also served as  Membership Chair on the Leadership Team for Together Oklahoma’s Tulsa chapter.

Kit Waters‘ parents, Richard Waters and Karen Thomas are from Stilwell, Oklahoma. However, Kit was born in Plano, Texas, and raised in the St. Louis area of Missouri. She attended school at the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville and graduated with a dual major in Political Science and Journalism in 2001. She earned her MBA at Lindenwood University in 2003. Kit married in 2004 to his college boyfriend, Chuck Ulrey, and relocated to Miami, Oklahoma, so that she could work for the Ottawa Tribe.

Their son, Berkeley, was born in 2008. Kit stayed home with him and continued to homeschool him until 2021. Because of the opportunity to homeschool, Kit was involved in the Northeast Soccer Association Board for three years as Concession Manager and Registrar. She taught three classes at their homeschool coop,  volunteered with the LEAD Agency, served on the Miami Public Library Board, and helped Debbie Lankford with the Ottawa County Democrats. Kit Waters can be summed up by saying she is a mom. She learned to strengthen her voice when talking to neighbors and local and national leaders because she wanted a better future for her son and his friends. Moms get things done. Moms care for others. Moms lift others up.

Joshua Harris-Till is an accomplished political consultant with an impressive decade-long career in the political arena. At 33 years old, he brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his work.

In 2022, Joshua emerged as the Democratic nominee for Oklahoma’s 5th Congressional District, showcasing his ability to connect with constituents and advocate for their needs effectively. Notably, he made history as the first Black man ever elected President of the Young Democrats of Oklahoma, and subsequently, the entire nation as President of the Young Democrats of America. This achievement is a testament to his leadership skills and commitment to amplifying the voices of young people in politics.

Joshua’s political journey began as an intern in Congressman Dan Boren’s office. Throughout his career, he has worked tirelessly at every level of government, from municipal to federal, and has been elected to serve on his state’s central committee and the executive committee of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) as a National Party officer.

While Joshua’s expertise spans across various policy areas, he has notably focused his efforts on gun violence prevention, taking on leadership roles in esteemed organizations such as Generation Progress, Moms Demand Action, and Everytown for Gun Safety. His dedication to activism extends beyond domestic initiatives, as he has actively collaborated with national and international youth organizations. Currently, he sits on a Core Committee for the world’s largest youth consortium within the United Nations, furthering his commitment to global youth engagement.

Recognizing the importance of equity and justice, Joshua has been involved in significant social movements, both statewide with Black Lives Matter and nationally with the Emmett Till Legacy Foundation. His multifaceted advocacy efforts reflect his dedication to creating a progressive future for all generations.

Sally Frasier was a proud feminist and political liberal — she was for years one of Tulsa County’s most prominent Democrats and party voices. She chaired the First District Democratic Committee for several years and was a delegate to several presidential nominating conventions.

A special highlight for Frasier of her party service was serving as an elector in the historic election of President Barack Obama, then attending his inauguration in Washington, D.C.

Sally was the recipient of a Pinnacle Award from the Mayor’s Commission on the Status of Women, and in 1996 she was named to the American
Library Association’s 50th Anniversary Honor Roll, representing the state of Oklahoma. NSU Centurion.

Reverend Doctor George E. Young, Sr. was born in Memphis, Tenn. He retired from 30 years of Pastoral service in 2013. Dr. Young was elected to the Oklahoma State House of Representatives in 2014, while serving was elected as the Democratic Caucus Vice Chair and serves as the Oklahoma Legislative Black Caucus Chair.

As of November 6, 2018, he was elected to the Oklahoma State Senate, and he will continue serving as the Chair of the Oklahoma Legislative Black Caucus. Dr. Young is the author of “Christology: A Look At Practical Christianity.”

Dr. Young is a graduate of the Oklahoma Aging Leadership Advocacy Academy class of 1999 (Charter Class). He is an alumnus of Leadership Oklahoma City (Class XX), completed two years as Co-Chair of Classes XIX and XXX and an alumnus of Leadership Oklahoma, where he was awarded the “Golden Bull” Award for most socially provocative. He received the Good Citizen Award and The Social Justice Award from the Oklahoma Conference of Churches, where he served as President.

While serving in the Oklahoma Legislature, Dr. Young has received numerous awards. To name a few: Special Recognition for his continuous commitment to outstanding service from the Midwest City Martin Luther King breakfast committee, 2019; Imam’s Pioneer Award 2019; Community Impact Award from a Chance to Change, 2019; and the Oklahoma Association of Nurses Anesthetists Legislative Excellence Award, 2019.

George Krumme was born and raised in rural Oklahoma near Okemah. His early education took place in a rural school and he finished high
school at age 16 in Bristow and then attended Oklahoma A&M as a music major.

Krumme left A&M to study weather forecasting at Spartan School of Aeronautics and then taught aviation cadets in Texas. Krumme enlisted in the Army Air Corps and received training in mathematics and physics at Pomona College in Claremont, California. Reassignment to the infantry led him to Europe during the Battle of the Bulge, and he was awarded a Purple Heart.

After the war, Krumme returned to Pomona to earn a bachelor’s degree and was named Phi Beta Kappa. Post-graduation, he returned to Bristow, joining his family as a partner in Krumme Oil Company, and then moved to Tulsa in 1960 where he studied on nights and weekends at The University of Tulsa to earn his master’s degree in petroleum engineering and Ph.D. in earth science.

Krumme has been active in Democratic politics for over half-century and has served as a National Committeeman from 1976–1996.

Demetrius Bereolos has been a Democratic Party activist for more than 50 years–walking precincts, helping candidates organize and raise campaign funds, serving as a precinct officer, and providing the credentials for county. congressional district, and state party conventions. He has served on the CD-1 Central Committee and State Central Committee. Demetrius was a Democratic Elector in 1988 and 2020 and has served as a poll worker (inspector) since 2016. Parts of the state party constitution and bylaws dealing with organizing and recognizing state Democratic federations and clubs, voting rules, and selection of the state convention site have been improved by amendments he wrote and worked to pass.

Demetrius has served on the boards of directors for state organizations that promote Democratic Party principles and values–civil rights (ACLU-Oklahoma), freedom of information (FOI-Oklahoma), abortion rights (Oklahoma NARAL) and government reform (Common Cause Oklahoma). He has helped educate students of all ages about government and politics by having taught political science at Tulsa Community College (part-time) for 35 years.

Jana Lewis Harkins has worked tirelessly for over 40 years advocating for various civic, political, and educational endeavors. She is a wife, mother, and grandmother and believes that time spent laughing and sharing with family is life’s greatest blessing. She and her husband, Clarence, have two adult children, ten grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren!

Ms. Harkins first became actively involved in the Oklahoma Democratic Party as a rural Oklahoma teen with her family in Ada, Pontotoc County, Oklahoma. As a young woman, her volunteerism with the Oklahoma County Democratic Party was rekindled as she became more active with her labor union, Communications Workers of America, Local 6016. With the encouragement of OKCPS Board of Education Member Freddye Williams, Jana joined the Georgia Brown Federation of Democratic Women’s Club in 1977. She is still an active member of Georgia Brown, which is located in CD 5 and primarily works to engage, educate, and empower voters in Northeast Oklahoma City.

Ms. Harkins recently completed two terms as the state president of the Oklahoma Federation of Democratic Women’s Clubs. She has previously served as the Treasurer for both the Oklahoma Democratic Party and the Oklahoma Federation of Democratic Women. She was inducted into the Oklahoma Federation of Democratic Women’s Hall of Fame in 2013.
