Banning Smokable Medical Marijuana Dishonors the Will of the People

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma Democratic Party released the following statement on the smokable medical marijuana ban ruling:

On Tuesday, July 10, 2018, the Oklahoma Board of Health ruled to ban the sale of smokable medical marijuana and requiring a licensed pharmacist manager to run dispensaries. State Question 788 legalizing medical marijuana was taken to a vote of the people on June 26th and passed with most Oklahomans in favor of supporting medical cannabis.

Oklahomans have spoken. The will of the people should be honored not insulted and gutted with last-minute amendments meant to thwart progress. The Oklahoma Democratic Party supports the legalization of medical marijuana and opposes any legislation intended to reduce the range of coverage contained in SQ 788’s stated language. The ODP supports any good-faith legislative measures to aid in its implementation.
