Black History Month 2018

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma Democratic Party statement on Black History Month: In celebration of Black History Month the Oklahoma Democratic Party believes that African American History is American History. Black History Month is a time for Americans to recognize and celebrate African Americans’ contributions to our nation and our state throughout history and reflect on the sacrifices made.

Thank you to activists, community organizers, and the many African American leaders who bravely fight daily for justice for everyone. From Jim Noble and Burt Lester delivering the seal from Guthrie to Oklahoma City to Clara Luper sitting in at the Katz lunch counter bringing the movement to Oklahoma.

In these unsettling times, now is the time to recognize that more work needs to be done and recommit ourselves to fight for justice and civil rights for All Oklahoman’s. Join me in celebrating those who came before and contributed to the Civil Rights Movement and thanking those who continue to fight now. Let’s stand together to celebrate our core values, inclusiveness, and diversity. “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” ~ MLK, Jr.
