Oklahoma County Democratic Party to Reconvene Their Convention

In the interest of fairness, transparency, and the democratic process, party officers issue a new call to convention.

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK, March 28, 2017 – The Oklahoma County Democratic Party is calling Democrats to reconvene to complete matters of business initiated at the March 25th County Convention. Concerns regarding improperly conducted caucusing in one caucus were brought to the attention of the party officers. These concerns also included a quorum call erroneously ruled out of order. As per the Oklahoma Democratic Party Constitution and Bylaws, this circumstance puts all Oklahoma County state delegates on hold until the conclusion of business. The OCDP officers have determined that, in the interest of transparency, fairness, and the rules, there is a constitutional mandate to reconvene and close business. The convention, scheduled for April 8th, 2017, must meet a quorum of a minimum of 160 delegates to proceed.

Party officers request that all unaffected caucuses bring with them their existing slate of delegate nominations for vote and approval, unchanged from the March 25th convention. The caucus with procedural concerns will be invited to conduct their elections and nominations again and present said nominations for a vote.

“Democrats’ truest focus is democracy,” says OCDP Chair Jesse Jackson. “It is important that every voice be heard and every vote be cast in accordance with our Constitution and Bylaws. Calling on the Oklahoma County Democratic Party to reconvene for a second convention was a difficult choice, but it is the right choice.”

The convention will feature an abbreviated agenda focused on the completion of the caucus and delegate selection and nomination process. Credentialing will open at 9:00 AM.
