One Month to Register
For November Election
Oklahoma Democratic Party (ODP) Chair
Lisa Pryor said today Oklahoma Democrats have exactly
30 days to register to vote in the 2006 elections.
The deadline to register is Friday, Oct. 13.
Pryor said Oklahoma Democrats can now
begin the process of voter registration using text
messaging. Using a cell phone, voters are able to
text the keyword "okdems" to the number
75444. The voter will receive a text message back
from www.mobilevoter.org , asking a few questions.
"This is an exciting new way to
begin the registration process that uses contemporary
technology," Pryor said. "We are always
looking for ways to make it easier for Democrats in
Oklahoma and especially young voters to get involved."
She said Mobile Voter, a non-profit,
non-partisan organization for voter registration,
will send the pre-filled form with state-specific
instructions to the voter, who sign and send it to
their local election board. Using the Planet Coding
service from the U.S. Postal Service, Mobile Voter
tracks if the form is sent to the election board.
Voters who register this way also receive
a text message reminding them to vote on Election
Day. Voter registrations forms are also available
at traditional locations: county election boards,
public libraries and tag offices. For assistance or
if you have questions, call 427-DEMO.
"In the next thirty days, we hope
to register more Democrats to vote in this critical
November election," Pryor said. "We have
a reason to be excited this campaign season and we
need Oklahoma Democrats to respond at the polls. The
only way to protect the future of Oklahoma is to register
to vote Democrat in the next 30 days. I am asking
individuals who believe in protecting our values and
believe in fulfilling our responsibilities to all
citizens to register in the next thirty days, but
more importantly make sure you exercise your right
to vote on November 7."
