Games Begin: Democratic Candidates File for Office

Oklahoma Democratic Party Chair Lisa Pryor said today Oklahoma Democrats have a reason to be excited this campaign season. When the state's three-day filing period ended, Democrats had strong, viable candidates in most races at the federal and state level. Pryor said the "Democratic team" is poised for success in 2006.

"Lead by Governor Brad Henry, the Democratic Party of Oklahoma has a strong slate of candidates. I am very proud of the hundreds of Democrats who are seeking public office and committing themselves to making Oklahoma a better place to live, work and raise a family," Pryor said. "We have always been the Party of people, programs and progress and we fully expect to elect Democrats up and down the ballot in November."

Pryor said the Party's goals are to defend the majority in the Oklahoma State Senate, reelect Democrat incumbents in state wide offices and gain seats in the Oklahoma House of Representatives. Incumbent Democrats in statewide office include Henry, Attorney General Drew Edmondson, State Treasurer Scott Meacham, State Superintendent Sand Garrett, State Auditor Jeff McMahan and Insurance Commissioner Kim Holland.
