ODP Loses Friend and Former Leader

Oklahoma Democratic Vice Chairman Ben Odom said today the Party lost a "fantastic Democrat" with the passing of Obera Bergdall, former ODP Chair. Bergdall was the ODP's first woman Chair and served from 1978-1983.

"Obera Bergdall believed in a better and more progressive Oklahoma and worked tirelessly on behalf of working families," said Odom, who served as state Young Democrats President during Begdall's tenure as ODP Chair. "As the first female chairperson of the ODP, she helped to permanently shape our state party's position of openness and social equality. In the 30 years I have been involved in Oklahoma politics and knew Obera Bergdall, she proved to be one of the Democratic Party's most progressive thinkers. She carried our party's message of compassion and moral values to every corner of the state."

Odom said, "today we send our thoughts and prayers to the Bergdall family. We will honor her legacy by committing ourselves ourselves to fulfill her vision of elected Democrats to public office in Oklahoma."
