Muscogee (Creek) Nation Woman
Will Serve on ODP Central Committee

Sue Johnson, a member of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation, will serve on the State Central Committee of the Oklahoma Democratic Party (ODP). Johnson was elected by Committee members to fill an affirmative action vacancy created by the resignation Cinda Hughes, who moved from Oklahoma.

Lisa Pryor, State Party Chair, said she is excited to have Johnson, a long-time Democratic Party activist, as a member of the Committee.

"It is vital for the Oklahoma Democratic Party to utilize its diverse and unique voices, it is what makes us such a great party," Pryor said. "The Oklahoma Democratic Party is the party of equality and the party of opportunity for all citizens, regardless of race, gender, religion or age. That has always been true and that will never change.

Johnson, who is also the Muskogee County Democratic Party vice chair, said her experiences in tribal government coupled with her experiences in local politics will help elect Democrats at the local, county, state and national levels.

"I believe in the power of participation," Johnson said. "Democrats are working together to make Oklahoma a better place to live and work. I believe in making that vision a reality."
